No Sales - Strategies - example http://www.footageplus.com/

Postby cadlibrary » Sat May 14, 2011 3:54 pm

Getting sales depends on many factors.

Theiven asked for help and so i will use his site as a example for this tread.
http://www.footageplus.com/

The homepage is looking very professional. Great and clean design. Super Job in my eyes. It is making me staying longer.. but..

Who are you targeting as customers ?

Your Stock is very general and not targeting a niche, you are competing with the BIG GUYS- They offer millions of photos and even there sometimes i can not find what i am looking for. I had a 50% share in a succesfull media, advertising and website agency till 2001 (sold) and was in need of good photos all the time. Often i could not find the motive i was looking for and we had to produce it ourself.

Questions to you:

1. Who are your possible customers?

2. What do you offer them?

3. Why should they buy from you?

Often i see webmasters whit great websites but no plan and strategy.

Questions to you:

1. What is your goal with your website?

2. What is your strategy to reach your goal ?

3. Do you have a plan B ?

If you take your time and answer all this questions serios i will sit down and study your site and come up with possible improvments and further strategies.

Andy

Hi Cadlibrary

Here are the answers..

1. Who are your possible customers?
---I was thinking of news agencies, media producers, documentaries. churches and mission org, etc.

2. What do you offer them?
Footage, Photos, Audio, Vector, 3D models
--- Our footage our mostly Asia based. So mostly for news or documentaries .. I guess.
and the other footage we should for corporate AVPs . I have tons of them. I haven't uploaded them yet.

3. Why should they buy from you?
--- Its much cheaper . I got what others dont have.

Often i see webmasters whit great websites but no plan and strategy.

Questions to you:

1. What is your goal with your website?
---- Getting people buy. and getting quality contents.

2. What is your strategy to reach your goal ?
---- Doing some marketing via facebook and post some link of the net. Thought of giving lots of footage for free to get some traffic and sale. I admin I haven't done enough.

3. Do you have a plan B ?
----Thought of some kind of tie up some willing companies. or sell the complete site.

Thank a lot.
Jesus bless you for helping me.

ok... here my toughts:

Most Important
Don't mix up corporate audio video production with Churches and Mission.

Both themes are good niches - stay whit ONE and optimize your website for
one niche.

Ways to improve your website right now:
    - keep your focus on a theme and make this very clear for your visitors.
    - Optimize your site (SEO) for your NICHE. If you sell content for Churches, Missions, Charity and so on.. SAY SO :-)
    - Don't use to many categories whitout content, empty categories making your site looking amateurish.
    - You need WAY MORE content.. resulting in more traffic.

You asked why you didn't make a sale, quit honestly:
Way to less content there and just some files with really good quality.

A photo/video stock site is not converting visitors into buyers very well. As a rule
of thumb i would say maybe 1 in 2000 - 5000 visitors is really buying, but they are loyal
customers and often come back. That's how it is on my PVSS site. But there are other income streams like advertising and using the PVSS site as a HUB site to generate traffic for another
good converting site(s) (own product bundle).

If your target is to build a fulltime online Income:

Corporate Video and Audio Production is a very HOT niche!
If you are a specialist and have really tons of professional files ready for upload i would start from scratch, searching the right domain name, doing keyword research before you start to build your site, create product(s), use additional advanced marketing technics (autoresponders, membershipscripts), build satellite pages using your PVSS site as a HUB to reroute visitors, and so on...

I've just outlined the basics of a complexe online biz above because going into details would be to much time consuming right now.

So the next steps to continue this tread : You should make a decision, which niche ? And you must be aware that there is a lot of work ahead and your first sale could be still a year away from now.

btw, where do you coming from? i don't see contact information with your address on your website? Buyers need to know from whom they buy :D

Asia may be ok if you really have content in professional quality.

Check it out yourself. Go to istockphoto.com and do a search "asia" - 130320 files showing up.. all in good quality. Can you compete? Do you have minium 1000 outstanding, professional files to start?

See the most downloaded motives. Those are maps, backgrounds, Biz people (PERMISSION), Symbols (Buddha, Sushi etc.), food .. can you compete ?

However, this quick search showing me, yes there is a good market, the first 100 000 files all have downloads, starting from >1400 to 2... yes they made some millions turnover with those pics :-)

I understand your footage files and pics are mostly if not all about Phillipines.
A search on istockphoto with "Phillipines".. showing me 4739 files.. and i think here we go..

Check out the files.. look how many downloads.. see if there is a market or not..

Test the quality of your material. Did you ever try to publish your files on istockphoto.com ? Give it a try and see if your best pics and clips will be accepted or not.

Thanks Andy,

I have tried on Istockphotos.com and some other site too. but, I did not spend much time one it and I have to compete with many good quality materiel there. And they are very strict with quality.

But I am selling on pond5. Since most of my files are video footage. I have uploaded the to pond5.com. (They are mainly on video, afx and audio. No photos). I am making close to $200 $400 per month. I have close to 1000 video there.

I will check again Istockphoto to study the market and let you know.

Thanks

Yes, Istockphoto is very strict, that's why it is a very good way to get a neutral opinion. And setting up an account will give you the opportunity to contact professional photographers in your niche later and invite them to publish on your site. You will be more trusthworthy when you have a trackable account with history and downloads on istock (or other big photo/video sites)..they will check you out too!.

However, what i am trying to demonstrate, it is very easy to figure out if there is a market for a niche in the photo/video market or not.

I think 200 - 400 USD/ on Pond5 is allready a great result and should give you some ideas for the right keywords (what is selling, which keywords) and future strategy.

You missunderstood that. Whit "Hub page" i mean that i use the traffic from my PVSS page and send people ether by advertising or links in description or even redirects to another website where i sell bundles, software, or whatever is related to the interests of my visitors.

In your case.. you sell motion graphics.. you could also sell a course showing "How to do motion graphics yourself". or a complete bundle including, backgrounds, sounds, songs... coupons for professional speaker (JV with somebody).. and a complete timeline script for a coorporate video.. a tutorial which is showing how to include own logos, products, and so on...

The possibilities are endless, and such products sell!
